Cut to the Heart

Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unploughed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until He comes and showers righteousness on you. But you have planted wickedness, you have reaped evil, you have eaten the fruit of deception. Because you have depended on your own strength…1

I want to reap the fruit of unfailing love, how do I sow righteousness?  Clearly my heart is hard.  I need to break up the unploughed ground.  What is the unploughed ground within me?  How do I break it up?  Repentance?  What have I not repented from?

My Prayer:  God, please allow Your Holy Spirit to convict me, show me where to break up the unploughed ground.  Search me and direct me, please give me your gift of repentance.  Surely You didn’t send Your Son to die in vain.  Please soften my heart, bring conviction!  I do not want to stay the same, please have mercy on me.

Lord, I agree with You, it is my nature to follow my own way.2  Please forgive me for depending on my own way and planting wickedness.  I have eaten the fruit of deception, death is waiting to consume me.  It is Your grace that preserves me, please do not give up on me.  You are faithful, I see Your hand at work within me.  You are changing me as I submit to Your rule of my life.  My time, my talent, my abilities belong to You.  Create a clean heart within me3 so that will be a reality in my life.  I accept Your grace to do Your will.  Please do not remove your Spirit from me.  Amen.

  1. Great word! Lord remind us that repentance is two fold… turning from sin and turning toward you. Just changing directions by turning from one sin to another is worthless. We pursue you with word and action. Help us.

  2. Turning from one sin to another – oh how many times I do that. God, please forgive me for putting You at the bottom of my list. I humble myself and recognize You in Your rightful place: LORD! Thank you for letting me see truth and bringing conviction. You are so very good to me!
